September 30, 3017 - They are growing up so well. No indications at all of any injuries or illness. They are sweethearts that love to be with their people. They are hiking with us in the mornings and evenings. Such beauties.

Septemer 6, 2017 - Yesterday, we found out what has been going on with the puppies since they were 3 weeks old. We just happened to x-ray Ginger and Lovie the other day to find out if we could see anything that would have been the cause of their pain at the time and the results shocked us all! Apparently, when they began walking, at the same time the virus hit, their bones were not strong enough to handle their weight and each of the girls show a small healing fracture in their right femurs at the same location on the same right back leg. It is suspected that MaryAnn would also show this same fracture, but possibly on both back legs, hence the reason for her paralysis and why it took her so long to recover. The femur fractures are small and are already healing on their own, but Lovie's healing process bent her right femur. As a result, Lovie will likely always have a very slight gimp on her rear right leg throughout her life. It will not bother her in the least and she will heal completely possibly straightening some as she heals. She will not experience pain, but her femur will likely always be slightly bent. The two girls, Ginger and MaryAnn, are healing normally without any deformity. We are just stunned at this news and the veterinarians, as well, have never seen anything like this before. At this point, we may never know if the frail bones were due to the virus or if this is genetic in some way. Skipper was not affected. This is, indeed, the survival litter.

September 2, 2017 - The lab results still have not come back for Ginger, but she continues to be absolutely normal, eating and drinking without any difficulty showing nice dark, firm stools. We went ahead and gave her the Spectra 5 shot just as the other puppy's received below a few days ago. We also gave her 5ml of Nemex II today for round and whip worms.

September 1, 2017 - Ginger is back to normal in every respect. We are waiting for the lab results to make sure that she is not contagious, but it truly looks like she did not have a virus at all, just a tummy ache that caused her to not drink, which then caused her to become severely dehydrated. She continue to remain isolated at this time, but is eating and drinking well and has her energy back.

August 31, 2017 - Ever since Ginger's temperature came back down, she has maintained a normal temperature with no indication that it will spike again. She had a stomach ache this afternoon after eating a chicken thigh, but she is drinking normally and has had no more trouble with dehydration. We continue to isolate her from her peers just in case she is contagious. She slept in the house tonight and was super good about letting us know when she needed to use the bathroom. She got up twice in the night. She will be super easy to potty train and is exceptionally aware and smart.

August 30, 2017 - Lovie, Skipper, and MaryAnn received 5 ml each of Nemex 2 for round worms today as well as their first 5-in-1 puppy shots. The Spectra 5 puppy shots protect the pups against canine distemper, canine hepatitis, adenovirus cough (kennel cough), parainfluenza, and parvovirus. Ginger was not feeling very well today and had a high fever this morning with mucus discharge in her eye, some vomitting, and not eating. She was taken to the vet after reducing her temperament some. The vet did an x-ray, which came back normal; a blood test, which came back normal other than a high white blood cell count; and a urine sample, which will be shipped off to another facility to check for viral infection. Her temperament is now back to normal. She is receiving subcutaneous fluids once a day and is on Clavamox (antibiotics) twice a day. She is doing well now and ate her dinner and drank water as normal. She will now be isolated from the other puppies in the event that she may be contagious. All of the other puppies are doing very well with no indication of ill health.

August 25, 2017 - MaryAnn and the Survival Gang are doing well enough that we finally set up a spot for them outside. They are now eating regularly 3 meals a day with 8 hours in between; a huge relief to our sleep schedule. ;)

August 17, 2017 - The puppies received 5 ml each of Nemex 2 for round worms. Lots of round worms were seen in the stools following this dosage.

August 10, 2017 - MaryAnn is doing better, but still not using her back legs. She receives physical therapy four times a day to strengthen her rear legs and not loose too much muscle from the weakness and pain in her joints. All of the puppies received 2.5 ml of Nemex 2 for round worms, but no worms were found in the stools.

August 06, 2017 - MaryAnn had constipation for about 24 hours, but has now released her bowels and feels so much better. She ate well after that and has rehydrated and is sleeping. The other puppies seem to have come out of it and are on the mend. We will continue to monitor MaryAnn, but she is eating and going potty now, which is a huge relieve. The puppies continue to receive medication as well as added probiotics in their food.

August 05, 2017 - Without their mother's immunity, these puppies are much more suseptible to acquiring bacteria and virus bugs that life brings with it. They must use their own immunity to fight off such things, rather than rely on their mother to gift it to them. Today, the puppies showed some diarrhea symptoms and tummy troubles. MaryAnn, in particular, was bloated and achy in her tummy. Eating solid food slowed for the puppies and MaryAnn only wanted milk replacer, which we obliged. Because of the diarrhea, we placed the puppies back on Clavomox. They will receive 25cc twice a day for a week. The puppies are eating and drinking though, so no big concerns at this time.

August 04,2017 - The puppies recognize when I am around by my voice and can see me, but only from close up. They continue to use their noses for most things, though. I put their food down today and deliberately did not move them over to where the food was. They all knew the food was there, but did not know which way to go. Skipper was the first to find it and begin eating. The other puppies followed him when they heard him eating. Interesting to note.

August 03, 2017 - The puppies have been eating real food for four days now. They are eating raw ground beef and chicken. Today is the first day the puppies ate their food without formula mixed into it. They have begun to drink water on their own and we have now placed a water bowl in with them to drink as they are thirsty. The puppies are also pottying on their own now. They receive baths every other day, which they have grown to enjoy. Each puppy receives individual snuggle time after their bath and after feeding.

July 31, 2017 - No roundworms present in their stools.

July 30, 2017 - We gave each puppy 2.5 ccs of Nemex 2 for roundworms today.

July 19, 2017 - All of the puppies have rallied and we no longer see diarrhea and all stools are normal. Each puppy is eating very well and sleeping a lot. They all enjoy snuggling when they are done eating and love to have their faces carressed.

July 16, 2017 - Lovie continues to have diarrhea, but eats well despite her tummy troubles. Her hydration levels remain adequate and her weight remains stable. She is under constant watch for increased symptoms. Another pup, MaryAnn, seems to have the dry heaves and is groaning. We anticipate that she may also have the same tummy troubles that her sister has shown, although she does not show diarrhea at this time. She also continues to eat normally. Puppies continue to be incubated at 79 to 81 degrees. Puppies have begun Panacur at .25 ml once a day in case the runny stools is parasite related. They will be on this for three days.

July 15, 2017 - Noticed one puppy, Lovie, has stomach ache and some diarrhea issues. We are checking her hydration levels constantly to make sure she remains hydrated. She continues to eat well. Puppies are now incubated at 79 to 81 degrees.

July 14, 2017 - Puppies are doing well and gaining weight appropriately. Puppies are transitioning to a lower heat incubation as they are now producing their own heat adequately. We are now keeping the heat at 80 to 85 degrees.

July 13, 2017 - Puppies continue to suck on their own and look must healthier. Weights indicate that hydration and glucose intervention is working and all puppies have gained significant weight at this time. Puppies continue to remain in incubation at 85 to 90 degrees.

July 12, 2017 - Puppies are beginning to suck on their own and no longer requre lactated ringers. They have transitioned to sucking on a bottle for their milk. We changed their milk formula to an all natural milk replacer, which we make from scratch each time. They have begun .2 ml Clavamox twice a day for any infections that might have resulted due to the loss of the mother. They will remain on this antibiotic for 7 days. Puppies are still under incubation at 85 to 90 degrees.

July 11, 2017 - One pup died with seizures developed from severe glucose deficiency. Puppies remain in critical condition at this time. The continue to recieve lactated ringers and cathetered feeding. Puppies are still under incubation at 85 to 90 degrees. We have begun a weight chart to monitor weight gain in the puppies.

July 10, 2017 - Puppies brought to vet for hydration and glucose support. The puppies will not be on lactated ringers (sucutaneous fluids) and cathetered feeding to get their glucose content up. Puppies are under incubation at 85 to 90 degrees. Pups are still in critical condition at this time.

July 9, 2017 - Puppies nursed on Tina for 2 days before Tina went into surgery to release the intestinal blockage from swallowing a piece of rope toy and she passed on the table. The puppies remaining will be raised without their mother from this point forward. We are very sad at Tina's loss. The puppies remain severly dehydrated and glucose deficient despite efforts to replace their mother's milk consumption.

July 7, 2017 - Puppies born today severly dehydrated and glucose deficient due to Tina's intestinal blockage.
